Dynamic Korea: Exploring Contemporary Society, Culture, and Trends

"Dynamic Korea: Exploring Contemporary Society, Culture, and Trends" offers an indepth examination of the social, cultural, political, and economic factors that shape contemporary Korean society. More specifically, this course aims to cover Koren's modern history, the global impact of the Korean wave, the country's economic and technological innovations, political landscape, international relations, and contemporary social issues. Students will engage in critical discussions and research surrounding contemporary issues, which will aid the students to develop a nuanced understanding of Korean society. This
will foster a diverse and global perspective amongst the students, allowing the
development of critical thinking and evaluating skills.

Korean Language and Culture

The course aims at developing students to be intercultural communicators by introducing them to linguistic principles underlying the communication strategies used by native Korean speakers. The course also examines grammatical structures in Korean that have special pragmatic functions.

Introduction to Landscape Design

This course will cover the basics of landscape design, including both the cultural history of landscape design and contemporary trends.

Students will: 

  1. Gain knowledge of the history of landscape architecture. 
  2. Develop and understanding of how current landscape architecture design practices and processes stem from historical trends
  3. Gain knowledge of landscape architecture design practices and processes, design terms and techniques
  4. Improve reading, writing and critical thinking skills by researching case studies and relevant historical material, and preparing documents that summarize findings
